National and state holidays in India mean trading holidays for major stock exchanges, also known as share market holidays. During these times, market transactions are suspended, impacting trading strategies and potential profit and loss for the financial year. To ensure you're fully prepared for the year ahead, it's essential to familiarize yourself with the trading holidays 2024 in advance.
Trading on the Currency Derivatives segment takes place on all days of the week (except Saturdays and Sundays and holidays declared by the Exchange in advance). NSE CLEARING may however close the market on days other than the above schedule holidays or may open the market on days originally declared as holidays. The NSE CLEARING may also extend, advance or reduce market hours when it deems fit and necessary.
The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) closes for trading on national holidays and religious festivals. To ensure traders and stakeholders can plan accordingly, MCX releases an updated holiday list at the start of each year, with the MCX holiday list 2024 now available. It's crucial to keep this list on hand to make informed trading decisions.
Despite daytime closures, MCX opens for evening trading sessions to align with the international commodity market. These sessions take place from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and allow traders to continue trading during those times.
When the clearing house, such as NSCCL, is closed for delivery and trade settlement, it's known as a clearing or settlement holiday. This differs from share market holidays, and thus two separate holiday lists are published annually by the exchange. Clearing holidays usually coincide with banking holidays, national days, and religious festivals, and may coincide with trading holidays. Trading remains open (except for currency trading) during clearing holidays, but the clearing house remains closed.
